100 Years of GMC Have Flown Right By!

2012 marks an important year for GMC, in case you didn't know. This year, the American automaker is celebrating its 100th birthday, and everyone here at Roper Buick GMC couldn't be more thrilled. After all, it's not every day that an icon in the automotive industry celebrates 100 years of solid manufacturing, customer service, and sales. That said, we'd like to take a minute to cover some of the bigger milestones in the company's history to give you a little insight into why we're so thrilled.

It all begins in 1912, when the Rapid Motor Vehicle Co. was purchased by General Motors. The two companies formed GMC (General Motors truck Company), which is still recognized in its current form today. And while the name might not have changed in 100 years, the company's offerings sure have. For instance, you might not know that GMC once produced motor homes during the 1970s. That's right, the company famous for models like the Terrain and Yukon once built motor homes of a much larger scale.

Another finer point about the American automaker that you might not be aware of is that they're featured in the HBO series Eastbound and Down. The show's protagonist, Kenny Powers, loves bragging about receiving "Denali's on the reg."1.

Of course, in the end it all really comes down to the kind of sales that can back that image up, and that's one department where GMC doesn't fail to impress either. More specifically, the GMC Sierra 1500 is one of the company's top-selling vehicles, and managed to outsell even the closest competing competition by about 40,000 units. What's more impressive is that if GMC were a stand-alone automaker, they would be the tenth largest in the United States today.

In the end, we all know that GMC owes numbers like these to the fact that the vehicles they offer at dealerships, like ours at 808 Illinois Ave Joplin, MO 64801, are so high quality. That's why we invite you to contact us online or by phone at (888) 835-8249 to arrange a test drive on a new GMC today. We can answer any questions that you may have about models like the GMC Acadia, Yukon XL 1500, and Sierra 2500HD, or even any of the used cars that we carry too. So be sure to make some fond GMC memories today. We can't wait to hear from you!
