Buick Ramps Up LaCrosse Fuel Economy

Buick may be wowing the masses with upcoming models like the 2012 Verano and upcoming 2013 Buick Encore, but the American automaker hasn't forgotten about the models in its current lineup either. In fact, they're even planning on giving their current flagship, the Buick LaCrosse a little kick in terms of fuel economy in the near future.
What we here at Roper Buick GMC are talking about is the plan for a "hybrid-lite"1 variant of the LaCrosse. Why not go full hybrid? The American automaker is making use of its parent company's new eAssist techology, which promises to deliver hybrid-like fuel economy without the expensive battery.
Similar to a typical hybrid, the Buick LaCrosse eAssist features a small electric motor in conjunction with its normal engine. The different, however, is that this new motor is not powered by a hybrid battery. Rather, it makes use of electricity provided from the serpentine belt when the vehicle brakes.
And the results? We really can't argue with the vehicles estimated 25 mpg city/36 mpg highway. It is, after all, a mid-size sedan with quite a performance-driven kick. Add in the fact that it doesn't skimp on any of the luxuries that Buick drivers have come to expect, and it's quite easy to see why so many are thrilled to take it for a spin.
Of course, we still want to know... Do you plant o check out the LaCrosse eAssist? Or do you plan on checking out one of the other all-new models that Buick is planning to introduce?
